One Manager’s Journey with EverMore: The Director & the Stone

Dear Readers,


In our first case study, we’re going to tell you a fairy tale—the director and the stone. This Seedling joined our beta program to build a growth path for their career, but it blossomed into so much more.

Once upon a time in a mid-sized kingdom, there was a Director who carried a heavy burden.


From the rulers above, pressure. From the sides, peers needing support. From below, his team looking for direction and inspiration. He was expected to do it all: deliver results, develop people, never stumble, but no one had taught him how.


So he wore armor.


He smiled through frustration. He avoided the hard conversations because conflict felt uncomfortable, and discomfort felt like failure. When he got last-minute requests for growth plans or bonus recommendations, he scrambled to create coherent stories. He wrote reviews while pondering if he’d ever said the feedback aloud or not.


It never felt like enough.


He read books about running 1:1s and attended leadership retreats, but they all glossed over the issue—How could he apply those practices authentically to his circumstances?


The armor felt like a cage, keeping him distanced, lonely, and uncertain. He didn't know where to start. Then he found EverMore and met Stone.


He started a coaching convo with hesitation, but it all poured out—the frustrations he couldn’t quite name, the hard feedback he never spoke, the triggers he struggled to pinpoint.


Stone didn't offer platitudes or placation. Stone asked a simple question: "Have you shared your concerns before?"


The Director paused. No, he hadn't. He'd been thinking about it, but not saying it.

Stone was direct: "You have to say the hard things. Not saying them isn't protecting your team. It's failing them." That landed.


So the Director started doing the inner work. He defined his north star—the legacy he wanted to leave and reflected on the impact he wanted to have on people. He realized his comfort was costing his team honest feedback and real growth.


Stone prepped him for the conversations he'd been avoiding, helped him name his biases before they showed up in the room, and helped him see that hard feedback wasn't the end of a conversation; it was the beginning.


That’s when things started to shift.


He had a hard conversation. Then another. His team didn't crumble. They leaned in. They asked questions. They wanted to grow.


His team joined EverMore, too. Now, they were all working toward their own north stars, prepping for their own 1:1s, doing their own inner work. The Director wasn't carrying everyone's growth path anymore.


The kingdom could feel it. Now that he could finally articulate what he thought and felt, his voice and influence started getting invited into bigger rooms.


His team was even rewarded with riches when he prepared with EverMore to advocate for team bonuses.


Lastly, he stopped coming home exhausted and ready to vent, because he was working through it with Stone. The loneliness lifted, and the armor came off.


The reluctant knight had pulled the sword from the Stone.
